Junior Club Newsletter November 2019
Greeting from IES Junior Club!
We trust that you were able to enjoy some quality family time over the höstlov.
Our focus for October was Breast Cancer Awareness. We spoke about encouraging the women in our lives to regularly “check their chests” and the children worked on art pieces featuring the pink ribbon which represents this cause.
Continuing with the theme of Breast Cancer Awareness, we also showed the students how to make beaded bracelets using safety pins, using pink & white as a colour scheme. This is a traditional South African craft idea and although it is time consuming, the end results are beautiful!
Halloween always brings much excitement to the school building as well as giving the opportunity to try out different crafting ideas. We encourage UP-CYCLING materials to use in crafting as often as we can and the use of otherwise “throw away junk” proved successful in making Halloween themed pieces.
Baking is one of the children’s favourite activities so the making of pizza was especially exciting for them!
From Week 46, our school will be offering breakfast and “mellis” at a nominal cost. Our Junior Club students will be able to have their “mellis” free of charge as they have already paid for the term. Should they want to buy breakfast however, they can purchase a clip card from Ms Hamed in her office.
We also want to wish everyone a Happy Fathers Day!
